Relaxation Techniques for
Anxiety
Many of us will
have our own relaxation techniques for anxiety. Some are
more effective than others. Unfortunately there are others
that really do not know how to deal with anxiety and
stress, so if you are one those people hopefully you will
be able to find a few ideas in this article that can help
you.
Sport is often used as a way of getting away from the trials
and tribulations of daily life. Throwing, hitting or kicking a
ball can be incredibly therapeutic. Mind you if you play golf
as badly as I do then sport can also be very stressful.
However, there are many ways of relaxing after a difficult
week at work or school such as listening to music, painting,
gardening and much, much more. Most of us have our own
effective relaxation techniques for anxiety.
Sometimes though, even these things may not relax you
properly if we suffer from an anxiety disorder. Anxiety attacks
are a sign that your body, mind and spirit are out of sync with
each other. Fresh air and oxygen are needed to stimulate the
body and mind. So what can be done?

Well the good news if you are an anxiety disorder sufferer is
that there are plenty of things you can try. If one thing
doesn’t work, then you can try another. A good place to start
is in the bath and a little bit of aromatherapy.
Run a hot bath and mix your favorite oils or bubbles to the
water. Even better would be to add a stimulating aromatherapy
oil such as lavender, which if used at night time will help you
relax and hopefully enjoy a good night’s sleep. If you take
your bath in the morning you could try something different like
lemon or grapefruit oil.
A lot of people swear by meditation. There are some good
routines to follow that will help your anxiety to disappear.
There are self help books to help you if you choose to meditate
alone, but attending a group session will probably be easier
and more helpful. Many groups actually link meditation with
yoga as effective relaxation techniques for anxiety.
Another idea is to sign up for classes in the art of tai chi
or maybe receive some reflexology, aromatherapy, massage
therapy or even hypnotherapy treatments. These all offer
techniques that will help alleviate your stress levels.
Of course extreme stress and anxiety can lead to symptoms
that are very worrying such as sweating, headaches, shortness
of breath or even chest pains. If you experience the latter two
it is a good idea to get checked out at the hospital or by your
own physician. If you know you are an anxiety attack sufferer
there are ways to control the breathing difficulties.
In stressful situations try to take deep breaths and fill
your lungs with air. Some people recommend breathing in to a
paper bag as a way to control breathing. I have heard of
asthmatics using this technique.
If you work in a stressful office environment you might want
to keep a stress ball in your desk draw. Squeezing this really
does help. If you are at home, punching and shouting at a
pillow can get the anxiety out of your system. Anyway to let
off steam in a controlled environment can act as excellent
relaxation techniques for anxiety. There are many different
things you can try so why not give them a go.
